    January - New Year’s Resolution ~ Volunteer ... Adopt ... Donate!

    Goal:

    To find 12 new volunteers, homes for 12 pets, 12 new donors

    Challenge:

    12 people to volunteer to help 12 hours/month either at the shelter or with membership, volunteers or fundraising

    12 people/families to adopt 12 new furry friends                               

    12 donors to donate $12/month and

    2012 collectors of “Pennies for Paws”

     

    February – Share the Love...

    Goal: 

    To raise $24,144 ~ $12 at a time

    Challenge:

    2012 people to donate $12

     

    March – Change their Luck

    Goal:

    To visit 12 businesses, community organizations or schools and promote the work of the Simcoe and District Humane Society

    Challenge:

    To be invited to speak and present the SDHS to 12 Businesses, organizations or schools and provide information on the work of the SDHS in Norfolk County

     

    April - Spay or Neuter your Pet and the stray outdoors

    Goal:

    To educate the public on Spay and Neuter programs not only for people’s pets but the stray outdoors

    Challenge:     

    To get 2012 pets and strays altered in Norfolk County by December 31, 2012

     

    May - Animal Health and Public Safety

    Goal:

    To promote animal health and public safety

    Challenge:

    To vaccinate 1000 animals against the Rabies Virus with SDHS’s Rabies Clinics

     

    June – “Pennies for Paws” for the Love of the Animals

    Goal: 

    To raise money, promote community awareness, facilitate adoptions and enjoy fellowship with other pet lovers

    Challenge: (started January 1, 2012)

    2012 collectors weigh in $20.12 in pennies collected from January 1, 2012

     

    July – Volunteer to Help the Animals

    Goal:

    To find 12 students to volunteer 12 hours/week or more over the summer months

    Challenge:

    12 Students to apply for volunteer hours over the summer which will help them collect the community service hours

     

    August – Weather safety for pets and animals

    Goal:

    To present public education on weather related safety issues for pets and animals

    Challenge:

    Pet owners to prevent weather related health issues and follow guidelines regarding keeping pets safe from harm

     

    September – Fundraising, Fundraising, Fundraising

    Goal:

    To raise funds through annual and new fundraising activities including: SDHS’s Rubber Duckie Race and Paws on the Path Walk-a-thon

    Challenge:

    • For 1750 people to purchase a “Rubber Duckie Ticket” @ $5 each
    • For 100 people to raise $100 collecting pledges for the Paws on the Path Walk-a-thon and

    100 other people to pledge $20.12

     

    October – Pet Ownership Education

    Goal:

    To promote good pet ownership and provide educational materials to the public and prepare for educational events in local schools

    Challenge:

    To be invited to 12 schools to provide educational material on pet ownership and appropriate pet care to children and young people of all ages

    November – Prepare for Simcoe and District Humane Society’s 60th anniversary in 2013

    Goal:

    To invite all past and present members, donors, adopters and supporters to participate in and promote the 60th anniversary activities planned for 2013

    Challenge:

    Every past and present member of the Society to get involved in the planning and preparation of the 60th anniversary events February 2013

    Every donor, adopter and supporter to attend 60th anniversary events

     

    December – New Friends and New Members

    Goal:

    To invite other animal lovers to become members of Simcoe and District Humane Society

    Challenge:

    201 Animal lovers, SDHS supporters, donors and friends to become members of the Society

    Cruelty Complaints

    At this time, Norfolk County OPP investigate acts of Cruelty or Neglect throughout Norfolk County.

    In Norfolk County contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122

    If you would like to report an act of cruelty to the OSPCA please contact 1-888-668-7722 (for emergencies during weekends or evenings dial ext. 1) or click here to send an email.

    If you are witnessing an act of Cruelty or an animal is in immediate distress due to an act of Cruelty, please contact your local police department.

    Although Norfolk County OPP conduct animal cruelty investigations throughout the area, Simcoe and District Humane Society helps with the care, treatment and housing of animals when requested. As with all programs within the Society, the cost of care for these animals is not covered by any level of government or other organization. SDHS relies on fundraising efforts and donations from the community while helping the animals.
