Stray Dogs

The best chance of reuniting dogs with their owners is contacting Norfolk County Animal Control who is responsible for ALL stray dogs.  Norfolk County Animal Control works to get adoptable dogs rehomed with the help of different Humane Society's including Simcoe and District Humane Society and registered Rescues.

Stray Cats and other animals

Please make sure we have all the information we need:

  1. your name
  2. your contact phone number
  3. your address (or the location the animal was found)
  4. Type of animal (cat, dog, rabbit, horse)
  5. Breed of the animal (even a guess is good)
  6. size of the animal (petite, small, medium, large, extra large)
  7. primary colour and secondary colour
  8. Age of the lost pet (estimated age of the found pet - infant, young, jeuvenile, young adult, adult, senior)
  9. Any distinuishing markings.  Examples: notched ear, missing tail, orange blotch on forehead


The more information you give us the more we can post in our lost and found database!

Please Note:  Norfolk County does not have a program for stray cats, other roaming pets/animals or wildlife.

Simcoe and District Humane Society's mandate is to help sick, injured and distressed animals ... those most in need!  SDHS is NOT funded by Norfolk County or any other level of government and relies solely on donations to fulfill its many obligations within its program guidelines and cannot help stray or feral animals unless they fall into the mandate.

Maple Oak Kennels will no longer be providing Animal Control Services for Norfolk County. The current property that the pound is located has recently been sold and as a result, Margaret Jess, owner/operator has decided to retire.  Hillside Kennels Animal Control Ltd. of Innerkip will be providing Animal Control Services for all of Norfolk County effective Monday July 22, 2013. This will be a 24/7 service.  The contact information is as follows:

If you are witnessing an act of Cruelty or an animal is in immediate distress due to an act of Cruelty, please contact your local police department.

Although Norfolk County OPP conduct animal cruelty investigations throughout the area, Simcoe and District Humane Society helps with the care, treatment and housing of animals when requested. As with all programs within the Society, the cost of care for these animals is not covered by any level of government or other organization. SDHS relies on fundraising efforts and donations from the community while helping the animals.
