Finally, winter seems to be here and with it the cold temperatures. Animals (large and small) suffer from the cold - Hypothermia, frostbite, dehydration and worse ... death can happen quickly when temperatures dip. There are other hazards that come with the cold weather, such as antifreeze and deicer toxicity.
Even that daily walk can be hazardous to your pets health as his/her paws touch the i...ce and salt used on the sidewalks. Animals also need a constant flow of drinking water, this can be difficult in the freezing cold and may mean many trips to the water tap or purchasing a heated water bowl. Keep your pets safe from winter hazards, talk to your veterinarian to promote the best winter exercise program and keep them protected from the elements. If you are shivering even though you are bundled up ~ so is your pet in his/her fur coat! Remember, he isn't wearing boots, gloves or a hat to keep warm. |

In Norfolk County contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 If you would like to report an act of cruelty to the OSPCA please contact 1-888-668-7722 (for emergencies during weekends or evenings dial ext. 1) or click here to send an email. If you are witnessing an act of Cruelty or an animal is in immediate distress due to an act of Cruelty, please contact your local police department. |

Although Norfolk County OPP conduct animal cruelty investigations throughout the area, Simcoe and District Humane Society helps with the care, treatment and housing of animals when requested. As with all programs within the Society, the cost of care for these animals is not covered by any level of government or other organization. SDHS relies on fundraising efforts and donations from the community while helping the animals. |
