As you know, SDHS has been busy with an abundance of animals.  We are having lots of fundraisers and adoption events fur the cause!  To everyone who has donated, visited the BBQ's, held events ... we thank you!  We could not continue with the overwhelming number of animals without your help!
Please stop by our events, pick up a hot dog, t-shirt, baseball cap, "pet pin", or of course at our adoption events ... find your new furry friend!
Since 1953 SDHS has been helping the animals especially those forgotten cats and kittens of Norfolk County.  There are more rescue groups than ever popping up to do the same ... especially those helping the forgotten cats and kittens of Norfolk County.  (Norfolk County does have Canine Control  Hillside Kennels Animal Control which helps with dogs at large)
There is still no funding from Norfolk County for any of these groups helping cats and kittens.  The cost of care can be huge.  From the cost of intake, medical treatment, vaccinations, flea prevention, deworming, spay/neuter, microchipping and of course feeding and littering.
There is still no funding for TNR (trap, neuter, return).
There are more people losing their homes/housing and not being able to take their animals with them this year than in the last 4 years and the number of seniors moving into residences or in general people who can no longer look after the large number of pets they already own (who they have rescued) who need placements for their pets is up as well.
SDHS DOES NOT euthanize for time or space ... once an animal is in care, they are there until adoption.  This being said, space can be limited  and it takes many volunteers to make the shelter environment healthy for the animals and foster homes to house those needing medical or special care.

Thank you to everyone for their support!  We look forward to seeing you at our events.  Your continued support helps us continue to help those who cannot help themselves!

or contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122

If you are witnessing an act of Cruelty or an animal is in immediate distress due to an act of Cruelty, please contact your local police department.

Although Norfolk County OPP conduct animal cruelty investigations throughout the area, Simcoe and District Humane Society helps with the care, treatment and housing of animals when requested. As with all programs within the Society, the cost of care for these animals is not covered by any level of government or other organization. SDHS relies on fundraising efforts and donations from the community while helping the animals.
